Why a Controlled Bay Beats a Windy Range Day
Wind doesn't just push your ball around — it quietly corrupts the exact numbers a fitting session is supposed to measure.
Ask any range regular in the Valley and they'll tell you the afternoon wind is predictable almost to the hour. What's less obvious is how much that wind is actually changing the numbers on an outdoor launch monitor, even when the golfer's swing hasn't changed at all.
What Wind Actually Does to a Reading
A 10–15 mph crosswind can shift a ball's landing spot by ten or more yards without a single thing changing about how it was struck. A launch monitor sitting behind the ball will faithfully record that shifted flight path as real data — it has no way of knowing the wind did the work instead of the club.
Heat Changes the Numbers Too
Warmer, thinner desert air lets a ball carry farther for the same swing. That's fine for a casual round, but it's a problem for a fitting session trying to compare a candidate driver against a baseline reading taken on a different day, at a different temperature.
Two identical swings, tested on two different Arizona afternoons, can produce carry numbers eight or ten yards apart before a single club variable changes.
What a Fixed Environment Actually Buys You
Holding temperature and air density constant means a comparison between two candidate drivers is actually a comparison between two drivers, not a comparison between two different weather conditions wearing driver-shaped disguises. That's the entire argument for testing indoors when the numbers are going to inform a purchase.
Where Outdoor Still Wins
None of this means outdoor testing is worthless — it's still the best way to confirm how a finished build actually plays on real turf, which is why our validation rounds happen outdoors on purpose. The bay is for isolating variables; the course is for confirming the final answer.
